What a window and door change order is for
Window jobs change at two moments: before the order goes in, when owners add or drop openings, and on install day, when the old units come out. A signed change order at either moment, with photos for anything found in the wall, keeps the order right and the final invoice free of surprises.
What to put on a window and door change order
- What changed and when.
- Openings added or dropped.
- Repairs found at tear-out, with photos.
- The new total and its effect on the order.
- Owner's signature.
A worked example
Before ordering, the owner adds the garage side window and drops the storm door. On install day, the kitchen sill turns out to be rotten.
| Line | Qty | Unit | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Add replacement window, garage side | 1 | each | Your price |
| Credit: storm door | -1 | each | Your price |
| Sill and frame rot repair, kitchen | 6 | ft | Your price |
Changes to units must be signed before the order goes in. After that, a change may mean a new order and a new lead time.

Terms and deposit language for window and door
- Deposit. A deposit at signing pays for the units, which are made to the measured size and cannot be returned. Check your state's limits on home improvement deposits.
- Payment. Balance due on install day once every opening is finished and the owner has opened and locked each unit.
- Warranty. The manufacturer warrants the units. You warrant the install: leaks at the opening and operation problems caused by how it was set. Say for how long.
- Lead times run from the order date, not the signing date, and are set by the manufacturer.
- Rot found when an old unit comes out is repaired at the per foot price on this estimate, with photos.
- Blinds, curtains and alarm sensors on old units are the owner's to remove and reinstall unless listed.
How to fill it in
- Put in the original estimate number and amount.
- Write what changed in the reason box, plainly.
- Add the new work; type a minus quantity for any credit.
- Fill in the days added.
- Print it for a signature on site, or send it from Koira to sign by phone.
