What a gutter change order is for
The most common gutter surprise is fascia that crumbles when the old gutters are pulled. New gutters cannot hang on rotten wood, so the change has to be signed on the spot. A change order with photos and the per-foot price keeps the crew working and the customer informed.
What to put on a gutter change order
- The original estimate.
- What was found or requested.
- Added footage or repairs.
- Credits.
- The new total.
- Signature before continuing.
A worked example
Old gutters come off and twenty feet of fascia is rotted. The customer adds gutters on the detached garage and skips the guards.

Terms and deposit language for gutter
- Deposit. A deposit at signing reserves the install date and the gutter color. Check your state's rules on deposits.
- Payment. Due on completion, after the customer has seen the downspouts drain.
- Warranty. Say how long you cover leaks at seams and corners and hangers pulling loose, and that the coil maker covers the finish.
- Rotted fascia found when old gutters come off is repaired by change order before new gutters go up.
- Downspouts discharge where the customer agrees, away from the foundation and not onto a neighbor's property.
- Gutter guards reduce cleaning; say plainly that they do not remove the need for all maintenance.
How to fill it in
- Put in the original estimate number and amount.
- Write what changed in the reason box, plainly.
- Add the new work; type a minus quantity for any credit.
- Fill in the days added.
