What a hood cleaning change order is for

Hood cleaning bids are made from what can be seen; the duct tells the rest. When a run is caked or unreachable, or the fan bearing is shot, the owner should approve the extra before the crew spends the night on it. A signed change order with photos does that, even at midnight, by text.

What to put on a hood cleaning change order

  • What the crew found, with photos.
  • Extra time or parts.
  • Panels or repairs needed.
  • New total.
  • Owner's or manager's approval.

A worked example

The duct is far heavier than quoted, a second access panel is needed, and the fan belt is worn.

FAQ

When does a hood cleaning need a change order?

When buildup is heavier than quoted, access panels are needed, the fan needs parts, or an extra hood is found.

How can a manager approve at night?

Send the change order and photos by text. The manager signs on their phone and the crew keeps working.

Should I charge more for neglected systems?

Yes, for the first clean. A system years overdue takes far longer, and the change order shows why.

Do access panels need approval?

Yes. Installing a panel changes the duct, so the owner should approve it in writing before you cut.
