What a masonry receipt is for
Masonry outlasts the owner's memory of who did it. A receipt with the address, the work, the date and what was paid becomes part of the house file, which buyers and inspectors ask about. On a deposit, it confirms the start date and the balance, so the customer knows their spot is held through the busy season.
What to put on a masonry receipt
- Amount, date and how it was paid.
- Work done or scheduled, with the address.
- Whether it is a deposit, stage or final payment.
- The balance still owed.
A worked example
The owner paid the deposit for the repointing job by card. Enter it in Amount received.
| Line | Qty | Unit | Price | Amount |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Repoint brick, grind out and refill mortar joints * | 80 | sq ft | $6.25 | $500.00 |
| Replace spalled bricks | 6 | each | Your price |
Put the planned start week in the notes, weather permitting.

Terms and deposit language for masonry
- Deposit. A deposit at signing holds the start date and pays for pavers, block or brick ordered for the job. Home improvement deposit limits vary by state, so confirm yours.
- Payment. Balance due when the patio, wall or repair is finished and walked with the owner.
- Warranty. Say what you stand behind, like settling of a patio base or mortar joints letting go, and for how long. Leave out damage from frost heave the base was not built for, salt, and heavy vehicles.
- Buried lines, sprinkler pipe and invisible fences in the dig area are the owner's to locate before work starts.
- Efflorescence, the white bloom on new masonry, is normal and usually fades.
- Matching old brick and mortar is close, not exact.
How to fill it in
- Fill in who paid and which job or invoice the payment is for.
- Check the lines; they show what the payment covers.
- Pick how they paid and add the check or reference number.
- Type the amount received, or leave it blank when it pays the whole total.
- Print it, download it, or hand it over as a PDF.
