What a handyman receipt is for

Handyman customers often pay cash, and landlords and property managers need receipts for every unit repair. A receipt listing the tasks and the address is what they file. It also helps renters show a landlord what they paid to fix. A clear receipt also cuts down on the follow-up texts asking what a charge was for.

What to put on a handyman receipt

  • Address and date.
  • Tasks done.
  • Amount and how it was paid.
  • Who paid, if a landlord or manager.

A worked example

A landlord paid by check for repairs in a rental unit between tenants.

FAQ

Do landlords need handyman receipts?

Yes, for their records and taxes, and sometimes to charge back a tenant for damage. List the unit and each repair.

Should I give receipts for cash jobs?

Always. It is the customer's record, and your copy keeps cash income on the books. Cash jobs are the ones most often questioned at tax time.

What should a handyman receipt list?

The address, date, each task, the amount and how it was paid. Add the unit number for rentals so the landlord can file it.

Can I send receipts by text?

Save the receipt as a PDF and text it, or let Koira send it when you mark the job paid.
