What a handyman invoice is for

Handyman days change as you go: one task takes longer, the customer adds two more while you are there, one gets dropped. The invoice should reflect the day as it happened, task by task, so the customer can match it to the list they wrote. Receipts for materials on request keep markup questions short.

What to put on a handyman invoice

  • Each task done.
  • Tasks added on the day, marked as added.
  • Materials and supplies.
  • Tasks dropped, left off.
  • Payment terms.

A worked example

The list is done, plus a dripping faucet cartridge the customer asked about at lunch. The bookcase was left for another day.

The added faucet repair carries a note, and the bookcase is simply not on the invoice. The customer can match it against their list line by line.

FAQ

What goes on a handyman invoice?

Each task done, anything added on the day, materials, and payment terms. Leave off what was not done.

How do I invoice materials as a handyman?

List them at cost plus your markup, or as quoted. Keep receipts in case the customer asks to see them.

How do I handle tasks added on the day?

Get a quick yes before you start, then list them with a note that they were added. The customer remembers when they see it.

Can customers pay a handyman invoice by card?

Yes. Most handymen carry a phone card reader now, and an invoice sent from a free Koira account carries a pay link the customer can tap before you leave the driveway. Getting paid before you leave beats chasing a check next week.
