What a holiday lighting invoice is for

The lighting invoice goes out the evening the lights first come on, when the owner is happiest. An invoice that lists what was hung, says takedown and storage are included, and gives the service call promise for outages keeps that mood and makes next year's booking an easy yes.

What to put on a holiday lighting invoice

  • Lights and decorations installed.
  • Takedown date range.
  • Service call promise.
  • Deposit already paid and what is left.

A worked example

The lights are up. The owner added garland on the porch railing during the install.

Mention the takedown window on the invoice. It is the question you will otherwise get in late December.

Terms and deposit language for holiday lighting

  • Deposit. A deposit at booking holds the install date in a short season and covers lights ordered for this house. Follow your state's deposit rules.
  • Payment. Balance due on install day after the owner sees the lights on.
  • Warranty. Lights that fail during the season are fixed on a service call within the days stated. Damage from storms, animals or people unplugging the timer is not a lighting defect.
  • Lights stay the property of the installer when leased, and are stored for next season.
  • Lights plug into existing outdoor outlets; new outlets need an electrician.
  • Install and takedown dates depend on weather; roofs are not walked when wet or icy.

FAQ

What should a holiday lighting invoice include?

What was hung, any additions with approval, the takedown window, how outages are handled, the deposit paid and the balance due.

When should holiday lighting be paid?

On install day, after the owner sees the lights on. A deposit at booking holds the date in a short season.

Should I bill the takedown separately?

Most installers include it in the season price and say so on the invoice, so there is no second bill in January.

How do I handle outages during the season?

Promise a service call within a set number of days and write it on the invoice. It is part of what the owner is paying for.
