What an insulation invoice is for
Under 16 CFR 460.17, insulation installers must give customers a contract or receipt showing what went in. Building that into the invoice means one document does both jobs: it bills the work and records the coverage, depth and R-value the owner, a rebate program or a future buyer will ask about.
What to put on an insulation invoice
- Coverage area by part of the house.
- Thickness and R-value installed.
- For loose-fill, initial and settled thickness and bags used.
- Air sealing and prep done.
- Installer signature and date.
A worked example
The attic is air sealed and blown in. Put the depths and the bag count from the job in the notes.
| Line | Qty | Unit | Price | Amount |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Blown-in (fiberglass or cellulose), attic * | 1,000 | sq ft | $1.66 | $1,660.00 |
| Air sealing, top plates and penetrations | 4 | hour | Your price | |
| Attic baffles | 24 | each | Your price |
Sign and date it. The federal rule asks for the installer's signature on the receipt.

Terms and deposit language for insulation
- Deposit. On larger jobs a deposit is due at signing for spray foam or a large bag order. Each state sets home improvement deposit rules, so look up yours.
- Payment. Balance due when the work is done and the receipt with coverage, depth and R-value is handed over.
- Warranty. You warrant coverage and depth as recorded on the receipt. Settling is accounted for in the installed depth. Damage from roof leaks or pests is not covered.
- The receipt shows coverage area, thickness and R-value, and for loose-fill the settled thickness and bag count.
- Attic access, storage and anything in the way are the owner's to clear unless listed here.
- Knob and tube wiring or signs of mold found in the attic stop the job until it is addressed.
How to fill it in
- Your business details carry over from any template you used before.
- Fill in who you are billing and the job.
- Check the lines against what you actually did, and add your prices.
- Put any deposit in Already paid, so the balance is right.
- Print, download or send it from Koira with a pay-by-card link.
