What an insulation work order is for

Insulation crews work in the dark and heat of an attic with the plan in their head. A work order with the target depth, the order of work (seal, baffle, then blow), where the old fixtures are and what to do if they find old wiring keeps the job safe and makes the receipt numbers true.

What to put on an insulation work order

  • Areas and target R-value with depth.
  • Seal gaps before any material goes down.
  • Baffles at every bay.
  • Light covers and clearances.
  • Stop conditions: old wiring, mold, active leaks.
  • Bag count to record for the receipt.

A worked example

Attic day, two-person crew, prices hidden on the crew copy.

Have the crew count bags as they go. The receipt needs the number, and nobody remembers it at the end of a hot day.

FAQ

What goes on an insulation work order?

Areas and target depth, the order of work starting with air sealing, baffles, light covers, stop conditions and the bag count needed for the receipt.

Why air seal before blowing insulation?

Because once the attic floor is buried under insulation, the gaps at top plates and penetrations cannot be reached again.

What should stop an insulation job?

Old knob and tube wiring, mold or an active roof leak. Each needs attention before insulation covers it.

Why count bags on the work order?

The federal receipt for loose-fill must show the number of bags used. Counting on the job makes it accurate.
