What a drywall work order is for

Hangers and finishers are often different crews, and each needs the same facts: which rooms get which board, the finish level, texture or smooth, and how the house is protected. A work order per stage carries that from the estimate to the crew and comes back signed when the stage is done.

What to put on a drywall work order

  • Rooms and board type by area.
  • Finish level and texture.
  • Board delivery and staging.
  • Floor and furniture protection.
  • Scrap and dust handling.
  • Stage sign-off.

Note where board is staged and the inspection status in site notes. Hanging before the insulation inspection passes is an expensive mistake.

FAQ

What should a drywall work order include?

Rooms and board types, finish level and texture, delivery and staging, protection, scrap handling and a stage sign-off.

Why check inspections before hanging?

Covering framing, wiring or insulation before inspection can mean tearing board off. Confirm the inspection passed on the work order.

How do I protect an occupied home during drywall work?

Plastic on doorways, floor protection on paths, and daily cleanup. Note it on the work order so every crew does it the same way.

Should finishers get their own work order?

Yes. Finishers need the finish level, texture and timeline, which differ from what hangers need. Their sign-off also tells the painter the walls are ready.
