What a pest control work order is for

Pest control techs need to know before they arrive whether there are pets, a baby, a fish tank or a vegetable garden, because it changes what they apply and where. The work order carries that from the phone call to the truck, along with the pests reported and whether the customer did the prep.

What to put on a pest control work order

  • Pests reported and where.
  • Areas to treat, inside and out.
  • Prep the customer was asked to do.
  • Pets, children, fish tanks and gardens.
  • Products and equipment to bring.
  • Tech sign-off and application record.

Note the fish tank and the dog in site notes, and record the products and amounts in the instructions after service. Many states require that record.

FAQ

What should a pest control work order include?

Pests reported, areas to treat, customer prep, pets, children, fish tanks and gardens, products to bring, and the application record.

Why note fish tanks on a work order?

Many products are toxic to fish. The tech needs to cover the tank and turn off pumps, or avoid treating near it.

Do I need to record applications?

Many states require licensed applicators to keep records of products, amounts and locations. Check your state's rules. A work order with those fields filled in is the easiest way to keep them.

How do I handle prep for bed bug jobs?

Send the prep list ahead and note on the work order whether it was done. If not, decide whether to proceed or reschedule.
