What a carpentry receipt is for
A deposit on a cabinet install often sits for weeks while cabinets ship. A receipt that names the job, the planned install week and the balance keeps the owner calm through that wait. On the final payment, it is the record of who hung the cabinets, which matters to the owner if a hinge or drawer slide fails later.
What to put on a carpentry receipt
- What was paid, on which day, by card, check or transfer.
- The job and the address.
- Deposit, stage or final payment.
- Balance remaining, if any.
A worked example
The owner paid the cabinet install deposit by bank transfer. Enter it in Amount received.
| Line | Qty | Unit | Price | Amount |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Install kitchen cabinets (cabinets by owner) * | 25 | ft | $125.00 | $3,125.00 |
| Install crown molding, dining room | 48 | ft | Your price |
Put the expected cabinet delivery week in the notes so the owner can see the plan.

Terms and deposit language for carpentry
- Deposit. A deposit at signing pays for the trim, doors or cabinet hardware ordered for this house. Deposit limits for home improvement work are set by each state, so check yours.
- Payment. Balance due when the punch list is walked and signed off, or in stages on larger jobs.
- Warranty. Stand behind joints that open from poor fastening and doors that will not latch because of the install. Seasonal movement in wood and gaps from house settling are not install defects.
- Old houses are rarely square; scribing and shimming are part of the price shown.
- Painting, stain and touch-up are listed when they are included, and are the owner's or painter's otherwise.
- Cabinets and doors supplied by the owner are checked for damage at delivery, not at install.
How to fill it in
- Fill in who paid and which job or invoice the payment is for.
- Check the lines; they show what the payment covers.
- Pick how they paid and add the check or reference number.
- Type the amount received, or leave it blank when it pays the whole total.
- Print it, download it, or hand it over as a PDF.
