What a septic receipt is for

Septic inspections are common in home sales, and some counties require pumping records. A receipt with the address, tank size, service and date, alongside the inspection report, gives buyers, sellers and the county what they ask for. Keep your own copy for the county too.

What to put on a septic receipt

  • Address and date.
  • Service and tank size.
  • Amount and method.
  • Who paid.

A worked example

A seller paid for a septic inspection and pumping before listing the house.

FAQ

Do home sales need septic records?

Often. Buyers, lenders and some counties want an inspection and recent pumping records. The receipt and report together cover it.

What should a septic receipt include?

The address, date, service, tank size, amount, method and who paid. Add the gallons pumped and the number of compartments.

Do counties require pumping records?

Some do. Check local rules and keep records for your customers. Pumping records also help when a system has problems later.

Should repair deposits get a receipt?

Yes, with the work, permits and balance due. Drain field work usually starts with permits, which the deposit covers.
