What a solar receipt is for

Customers claiming solar incentives need records of what they paid and when the system was placed in service. A receipt with the system size, equipment, address, payment dates and amounts gives them what their tax preparer asks for. You provide the paperwork; they claim the incentive.

What to put on a solar receipt

  • Amount, date and method.
  • System size and equipment.
  • Address.
  • Payments to date and balance.

A worked example

The utility granted permission to operate, and the homeowner paid the final milestone by bank transfer.

Terms and deposit language for solar

  • Deposit. A deposit at signing covers design and permit work. Equipment and installation payments follow milestones. Check your state's rules on deposits and any solar-specific consumer rules.
  • Payment. Payments tied to milestones such as permit approval, installation complete and permission to operate from the utility.
  • Warranty. Separate the panel and inverter makers' warranties from your workmanship and roof penetration warranty, with how long each runs.
  • Production estimates are estimates; actual output depends on weather, shading and use.
  • Incentives, credits and rebates are the customer's to claim and depend on their situation; you provide paperwork, not tax advice.
  • Utility approval timelines are outside your control.

How to fill it in

  3. Pick how they paid and add the check or reference number.

FAQ

What receipt do solar customers need for incentives?

Records of what they paid, when, for what system, and when it began operating. Their tax preparer decides what applies.

Should each milestone get a receipt?

Yes, with the running total, so the customer has a complete payment record for the system. A full set of receipts is what the customer hands their tax preparer.

Can I give tax advice on solar credits?

No. Provide the paperwork and suggest the customer talk to a tax professional. Point them to the program's own guidance as well.

How do I send solar receipts?

Save as PDF and email, or let Koira send them as payments come in. A receipt with each milestone payment keeps the record complete.
