What a locksmith receipt is for

Tenants who get locked out may need to show a landlord what they paid, and after a break-in, insurers ask for receipts for new locks. A receipt naming the address, the work and the date, with your license number, covers both. Commercial clients need them after staff changes too.

What to put on a locksmith receipt

  • Address and date.
  • The service.
  • Amount and method.
  • License number where required.

FAQ

Do insurers ask for locksmith receipts after a break-in?

Often. A receipt with the address, date and new locks supports the claim for replacing them. Put the police report number in the notes if the customer has one.

What should a locksmith receipt include?

The address, date, service, amount, method and your license number where required. Add the hardware brand and grade for any new locks.

Can tenants use a lockout receipt with a landlord?

Yes, as proof of what they paid, depending on the lease. Some leases make tenants pay for lockouts, others do not, so the receipt helps either way.

Should I give receipts for cash?

Always. It is the customer's record and keeps your cash on the books. Cash lockouts late at night are exactly the jobs most likely to be questioned later.
