What a security system receipt is for
Homeowners often send proof of a monitored or camera system to their insurer. A receipt that lists the devices installed, the address and the date gives them what they need. On the deposit, it confirms the equipment is ordered and the install date is held.
What to put on a security system receipt
- Payment amount, its date and how it came in.
- Devices ordered or installed.
- Deposit or final.
- Balance remaining, if any.
A worked example
The owner paid the deposit for the cameras and recorder. Enter it in Amount received.
| Line | Qty | Unit | Price | Amount |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PoE (wired network) camera, supplied and installed * | 4 | each | $140.00 | $560.00 |
| NVR (network video recorder), set up with the phone app * | 1 | each | $300.00 | $300.00 |
| Total before tax | $860.00 |
List the devices on the final receipt. Insurers ask what was installed, not just what was paid.

Terms and deposit language for security system
- Deposit. A deposit at booking covers cameras, recorders and panels bought for the job. Follow your state's deposit rules for home improvement and low voltage work.
- Payment. Balance due at install, after the system is tested and the owner's phone is set up.
- Warranty. Equipment is under the maker's warranty. You warrant your install and cabling for the time stated. Damage from storms, power surges and tampering is not covered.
- Monitoring, if chosen, is provided by a central station under its own contract.
- The owner keeps the admin passwords; you keep only what you need to service the system, with permission.
- Wi-Fi and internet service are the owner's; cameras that rely on them are only as steady as that service.
How to fill it in
- Fill in who paid and which job or invoice the payment is for.
- Check the lines; they show what the payment covers.
- Pick how they paid and add the check or reference number.
- Type the amount received, or leave it blank when it pays the whole total.
- Print it, download it, or hand it over as a PDF.
