- Four wired PoE cameras and a network recorder usually come to $600 to $1,120 installed, about $860 typical.
- Fixr puts most camera installs at $400 to $800, and four wired cameras at $600 to $2,000.
- Doorbell cameras run $125 to $300 installed; PTZ cameras $450 to $900.
- Cloud recording runs $15 to $30 a month, on top of the install.
How much does security camera installation cost
Camera systems are priced per camera, installed, plus the recorder. Fixr publishes installed prices by camera type, which the calculator uses, with the typical figure at the midpoint. Bob Vila gives an overall range of $150 to $2,040 by type and number of cameras, which the results fall inside for most systems.
| Camera | Installed, each (Fixr) |
|---|---|
| Bullet | $80 to $180 |
| PoE (wired network) | $100 to $180 |
| Dome | $130 to $270 |
| Doorbell | $125 to $300 |
| Outdoor security | $250 to $600 |
| PTZ | $450 to $900 |
Recorders and storage
Wired systems record to a box in the house. Fixr puts an NVR (for network cameras) at $200 to $400 and a DVR (for analog cameras) at $100 to $250, unit only. Wireless cameras often record to the cloud instead, at $15 to $30 a month in Fixr's guide.
A worked example: eight dome cameras
A small shop wants eight dome cameras on a DVR.
- Cameras. 8 × $130 / $200 / $270 = $1,040 / $1,600 / $2,160.
- DVR. $100 / $175 / $250.
- Total. $1,140 to $2,410, about $1,775 typical.
For security and low voltage installers
Price per device plus per cable run, and count the hour it takes to set up the recorder and the customer's phone. Fixr's home security guide puts installers at $60 to $150 an hour.
