What a glass estimate is for
Glass customers often expect a window to cost what a pane costs, or a shower door to cost what a store sells one for. An estimate that lists glass type, size, hardware, the measure visit and setting materials makes clear what goes into each piece, and records that custom glass cannot go back once it is cut.
What to put on a glass estimate
- Each pane or panel with size and type.
- Hardware and finish for doors.
- Measure visit and whether it is credited.
- Setting materials and disposal.
- Safety glass where required.
- Deposit before ordering.
A worked example
One fogged double pane in a living room window, plus a frameless shower door. The pane line uses the calculator's typical price.
| Line | Qty | Unit | Price | Amount |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Double pane (insulated) glass, replaced in existing frame * | 1 | each | $463.00 | $463.00 |
| Frameless shower door | 1 | each | Your price | |
| Measure visit | 1 | visit | Your price | |
| Disposal of old glass | 1 | each | Your price |
Put the deposit and the no-return rule in the terms. Cut glass belongs to the job the moment it is ordered.

Terms and deposit language for glass
- Deposit. Custom glass is cut to size and cannot be returned, so a deposit is due before it is ordered. Check your state's home improvement deposit rules.
- Payment. Balance due at install.
- Warranty. The fabricator warrants the glass and seals. You warrant the install: leaks at the glazing and hardware you mounted. Breakage after install is not covered.
- Measurements are taken at the measure visit; glass is ordered to those sizes.
- Safety glass is used where code calls for it.
- Frames found rotten or damaged are priced before glass goes in.
How to fill it in
- Put in your business details once; this browser keeps them for every template.
- Fill in the customer and the job.
- Change the line items to fit this job and add your prices.
- Set tax, the deposit and the good-until date.
- Print to PDF, download Word or CSV, or send it from Koira.
