Key takeaways
  • Send the invoice before you leave the driveway; it is the moment the customer is most willing to pay.
  • The core of plumbing invoicing is on Koira's Grow plan, $249 a month plus usage, with no per-person fee.
  • Card rates for Kickserv, ServiceM8 and Housecall Pro are from each company's own pages, next to Koira's.

How a plumbing shop gets paid

Plumbing invoices are usually one visit, paid on the spot. The trip fee, the part and the labor are known before you leave, and the best time to collect is while the customer is looking at the dry floor.

Bigger jobs, a repipe or a sewer line, need a deposit and sometimes a second payment when the line is in.

What goes on a plumbing invoice

  • Trip or service call fee
  • Labor from the price list
  • Parts and fixtures
  • Water heater and haul-away
  • Permit pass-through
  • Deposit on repipes and sewer work
  • Balance when the job passes inspection
  • Pay over time on a sewer line
A tip from the tradeSend the invoice before you leave the driveway; it is the moment the customer is most willing to pay.

What invoicing software should do for plumbers

  • The invoice built from the signed estimate
  • Paid at the door by card or phone wallet
  • Deposits and staged invoices
  • The card rate published, on both sides
  • Customer financing, which matters for plumbers

How Koira does it

In Koira, a plumbing invoice is built from the signed estimate and your price list, trip or service call fee and all, and goes out when you tap done. It opens as a QR code at the door, so the customer pays by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or pay over time through Affirm or Klarna. Deposits are paid at signing and bigger jobs bill in stages. That is on Office, the free plan.

On Grow, invoices, payments and deposits post to QuickBooks Online as they happen.

What Koira does not doKoira does not do payroll, inventory or a dispatch board for a call center. If you need those, a larger system may suit you better.
