Key takeaways
  • Send each stage invoice the day the stage is done; a remodeler who bills late finances the homeowner's project.
  • The core of remodeling invoicing is on Koira's Grow plan, $249 a month plus usage, with no per-person fee.
  • Card rates for JobTread, Buildertrend and Handoff are from each company's own pages, next to Koira's.

How a remodeling company gets paid

Remodeling billing is staged: a deposit at signing, payments at milestones, and a final at the walk-through. Change orders add their own lines along the way.

Financing helps the bigger option happen: a kitchen sold as a monthly payment is often the better kitchen.

What goes on a remodeling invoice

  • Deposit at signing
  • Payment at rough-in
  • Payment at cabinets and counters
  • Final at the walk-through
  • Change orders as they come
  • Allowance overages
  • Permit pass-through
  • Pay over time on the balance
A tip from the tradeSend each stage invoice the day the stage is done; a remodeler who bills late finances the homeowner's project.

What invoicing software should do for remodelers

  • The invoice built from the signed estimate
  • Paid at the door by card or phone wallet
  • Deposits and staged invoices
  • The card rate published, on both sides
  • Customer financing, which matters for remodelers

How Koira does it

In Koira, a remodeling invoice is built from the signed estimate and your price list, deposit at signing and all, and goes out when you tap done. It opens as a QR code at the door, so the customer pays by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or pay over time through Affirm or Klarna. Deposits are paid at signing and bigger jobs bill in stages. That is on Office, the free plan.

On Grow, invoices, payments and deposits post to QuickBooks Online as they happen.

What Koira does not doKoira does not do payroll, inventory or a dispatch board for a call center. If you need those, a larger system may suit you better.
