What a painting workmanship warranty is for
Paint failures are almost always about prep or moisture. A painting warranty that covers peeling, blistering and flaking caused by your work, and excludes fading, mildew, cracking wood and moisture coming through the wall, is fair to both sides. It also tells the customer what to watch for and when to call, which keeps small touch-ups from becoming big complaints.
What to put in a painting workmanship warranty
- Coverage for peeling, blistering and flaking from your prep and application.
- Interior and exterior terms, if they differ.
- Exclusions: fading, chalking, mildew, moisture, cracking substrates.
- Surfaces excluded: horizontal surfaces, decks, floors.
- How touch-ups are matched.
- How to make a claim.
What a painting warranty usually leaves out
- Fading and chalking from sun exposure.
- Mildew and algae from shade and moisture.
- Peeling caused by water getting into the wall or wood.
- Decks, rails and other horizontal surfaces.
- Damage from cleaning, impacts or pets.
How to fill it in
- Fill in the customer, the job and the date the work finished.
- Set your warranty period.
- Check what is and is not covered for this job.
- Print it for the walkthrough, or download Word to send with the final invoice.
