What transfer efficiency means
Transfer efficiency is the share of the powder leaving the gun that actually sticks to the part. The rest is overspray, which a reclaim booth can collect and reuse, though many shops throw it away when they change color.
Also called first pass transfer, powder usage.
Where it matters on a powder coating job
It decides how much powder a job really burns. Small open parts like railings and grates waste far more powder than flat panels, so allow for overspray in the material line of the quote, especially for custom colors that cannot be reclaimed.
