What media blasting means
Media blasting strips old paint, rust and mill scale by firing abrasive grit at the part with compressed air. It also roughens the surface into a profile that the new coating can grip.
Also called sandblasting, abrasive blasting.
Where it matters on a powder coating job
Stripping a part that has been painted several times can take longer than coating it. Look at the old finish before you quote, price blasting separately from coating, and coat soon after blasting, since bare steel starts to flash rust in humid air.
