SEO for powder coaters: getting found by people with a part to coat

Most powder coating customers search, look at photos, then drive a part over. Here is how a small coating shop shows up on Google and wins the drop off.

People search powder coating near me, powder coat wheels, powder coating cost. They want to see finished parts, know roughly what it costs and know when they can drop off and pick up. The shops with a page for each kind of work, real photos with the color named and clear shop hours get those parts. This guide covers how local search works for a powder coating shop and what a small one can do about it.

Key takeaways
  • Google says local results come from relevance, distance and prominence. Profile, pages and reviews are what you control.
  • Customers come to you, so the listing shows your shop address and the hours someone is there to take a part.
  • Wheels, furniture, auto parts and production work are separate searches. Give each a page.
  • Photos of finished parts with the color named are the strongest proof this trade has.
  • Ask every customer for a review at pickup, and never offer a discount for one.

How Google decides which powder coaters to show

According to Google, local results mostly come down to relevance, distance and prominence, also described as popularity: a good match for the search, a short distance from the searcher and a business people know.

For powder coaters there are two kinds of search to win. "Powder coating near me" is a map search, decided by the listing. "Powder coat wheels cost" is a research search that lands on websites. A small powder coating shop can show up for both, but they need different things.

Three kinds of powder coating searches

SearchThe customerWhat wins
Powder coating near meReady to drop off a partListing, shop hours, photos and reviews
Powder coat wheels costComparing pricesA page with a price per wheel and the turnaround
Can you powder coat aluminumResearching a projectA page that answers it plainly

Near me searches go to the map, and the map shows how far the shop is. Buyers look at photos and reviews, then check that you are open when they can bring the part.

Cost searches come from people comparing shops. A page with a price per wheel or per chair and the usual turnaround wins the careful buyer. The free powder coating price calculator shows how a price is built.

Question searches come from people early in a project. A plain page on what can and cannot be coated catches them weeks before they pick a shop.

When powder coating searches pick up

Demand for powder coating is not flat. It peaks around spring, when cars, bikes and patio furniture come out and drops in the weeks around the holidays. Pages and posts that match the season should be live before these months:

  • February (get ready): parts for the spring car shows
  • March (busy): wheels and parts before driving season
  • April (busy): patio furniture and railings
  • May (busy): bikes, wheels and furniture
  • September (get ready): fall projects and repaints

Step 1: the Business Profile

Three rules in Google's guidelines trip up more powder coaters than anything else:

  • Real name only. Stuffing services or towns into the name breaks Google's guidelines and can lead to a suspension. "Cedar Ridge Powder Coating" is fine. "Cedar Ridge Powder Coating Wheel powder coating Patio furniture refinishing Near Me" is not.
  • Few categories. Google wants the fewest categories that describe what the business mainly is.
  • Your shop address, shown. Google's guidelines say a business that serves customers at its own address can show that address, and can also set a service area if it travels to customers too. Google says the location should be staffed by your team and able to receive customers during its stated hours. Put the hours someone is there to take a part, not just the hours you work.

Before and after shots of real parts, your booth and oven, the color wall or swatches, and the front of the shop so people know they found it. Make sure the listing and your site say the same thing about your name, phone and hours. Koira keeps Google and Bing listings in step with your site.

Step 2: the pages a powder coating site needs

Most small powder coating sites have one page that lists every service. Google needs more than that to match the searches above.

  • Wheels. Sizes, colors, whether tires come off here, and a price per wheel.
  • Patio furniture and railings. Blasting, coating and the usual turnaround.
  • Auto and motorcycle parts. Calipers, frames, brackets and covers.
  • Production and batch work. For manufacturers: per part and per batch pricing.
  • Blasting and stripping. What it takes to get old paint and rust off.
  • A price page. How a price is built; our guide to pricing powder coating covers the math.
  • Colors and finishes. The colors you stock and how custom colors work.

A clear page title says what and where: "Patio furniture refinishing in Brandon, FL | Cedar Ridge Powder Coating". Google's starter guide calls keyword stuffing a breach of its spam policies. Koira builds those service and town pages for you, from your business and price list.

Step 3: every finished job is proof

A finished part next to its before photo, with the color name and the finish, is the post that sells the next job. Say what the part is and how it came in. It shows Google what you coat and shows the next customer what their own part could look like.

If writing posts is the part you will never get to, Koira posts a finished job each month from the photos you already take on your phone.

Your shop sign is part of your SEOPeople who drive past the shop, or see a part you finished, often search the name later. Keep the name on the building, the invoice and the Google profile exactly the same. Koira's quote form on your site takes their photos and files, so the search ends in a quote request.

Step 4: reviews from every job

Prominence, Google says, partly comes from how many sites link to you and how many reviews you have. For powder coaters, reviews do double duty: they help the listing and they answer the question every new customer has, which is whether you can be trusted.

Google says offering incentives, like free or discounted goods or services, in exchange for reviews is strictly prohibited. Google's Maps policy also forbids discouraging negative reviews or asking only happy customers.

  • Ask every customer, when the job is paid and the work is fresh.
  • Reply to every review and name the part and the color. People shopping for a coater read reviews for words like even, durable and on time.
  • For complaints, the free review reply generator drafts a calm reply for any star rating.

Koira asks for the review the morning after payment and drafts the reply.

Check where you stand

Koira's free AI report shows your search results, listings, reviews and website the way a customer sees them, next to powder coaters near you.

Links to your site count toward prominence, according to Google's local ranking page. Useful links for a powder coater: the welders, fabricators and wheel shops you work with, car clubs and show listings you support, and the powder suppliers whose applicator lists include your shop.

What to skip

  • Anyone promising page one. Google's help page says no one can pay for, or ask for, a higher spot in the local results.
  • Fake offices. A virtual office, meaning a rented address you do not work from, is not eligible for a Business Profile under Google's guidelines.
  • The keywords meta tag. Google's starter guide says plainly that the keywords meta tag is not used by Google Search.

How to tell if it is working

  1. Calls, website clicks and direction requests from your Business Profile, by month.
  2. Requests for wheel powder coating and patio furniture refinishing that came from your site.
  3. Reviews per month compared with jobs finished.
  4. Where each booked powder coating job came from.

Give it a season before you judge. Google's starter guide says some changes show in a few hours and others take several months. Koira's reporting shows dollars paid on jobs Koira touched first, next to what Koira cost.

SEO takes months; some weeks you need calls now. Powder Coating is not named on Google's Local Services list as we read it, so most paid options here are lead sites. See powder coating leads: where to buy them and how to need fewer, and powder coating marketing ideas for the rest of the plan.

Where Koira fits

Everything above can be done by hand. If you would rather be on the job, Koira does the repeating parts: a site built from your business with Book online and Get a price, town and service pages, matching listings, review asks and a monthly post. The site, estimates and invoices are free on Office; the receptionist and text-back are on Grow at $249 a month plus usage at cost. See pricing or how a powder coating shop runs on Koira.

Questions contractors ask

How do powder coating shops rank higher on Google?

Verify your Business Profile with the shop address and hours, add a page for each kind of work, post finished parts with the color named and ask every customer for a review at pickup.

Should a powder coater post prices?

A price per part for common jobs, like wheels and chairs, helps people choose you before they call. Custom and production work can say how it is priced instead.

Do I need a page for every color?

No. One colors and finishes page with the colors you stock and how custom colors work is enough. Put the color name on each project photo instead.

How long does SEO take for powder coaters?

Google's own starter guide says some changes take effect in a few hours and others take several months. Listing fixes tend to show sooner than new pages, so judge it over a season.
