Buying leads is the fast way to fill a powder coating calendar, and building them is the cheap way. Most powder coaters need some of each: paid leads for a full run of railings or a production batch of brackets in a slow week, owned leads for steady wheel powder coating. Here is every common source and what each platform says about its own pricing and rules.
- Powder Coating is not named on Google's Local Services list as we read it.
- Lead platforms bill for introductions; judge each one by what a booked powder coating job really cost.
- Buyers compare powder coaters, and the first clear reply wins most shared leads.
- Owned leads, like reviews, a price on your site and photos of finished work, keep working after you stop paying.
Where powder coating leads come from
Here is each common source for powder coaters, whether you own it or rent it, how you pay and how well it fits powder coating.
| Source | Own or rent | How you pay | Fit for powder coaters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Business Profile and reviews | Own | Free | The map listing decides most first calls for powder coaters; photos of your patio furniture refinishing help it win. |
| Your own site with a price | Own | Free on a Koira address | Lets someone price a set of four wheels after dinner and book without a call. |
| Past customers and referrals | Own | A text, an email, a thank-you | Referrals from welders, wheel and tire shops, auto body shops, sandblasters and car clubs close more often than any bought lead. |
| Neighbor postcards | Own | Per card | Cards go to the homes around a job at a customer's address, so they fit the on-site work only: a railing or gate you coated and hung back on the customer's house. Parts dropped off at the shop have no street to mail. |
| Google Local Services Ads | Rent | Per lead | Powder Coating is not named on Google's eligible list as we read it. |
| Angi and HomeAdvisor | Rent | Per match, win or lose | A job like a full run of railings or a production batch of brackets can carry a few lead fees that go nowhere; a set of four wheels cannot. |
| Thumbtack and Bark | Rent | Budget or credits | Buyers compare a handful of powder coaters at once, so speed decides who gets the job. |
| Writing to commercial buyers | Own | Time, or Koira Front Office | Fabricators, machine shops, fence and railing companies and small manufacturers hire again and again; one yes beats many one-off leads. |

Google Local Services Ads for powder coaters
Powder Coating is not named on Google's list of Local Services categories as we read it on Google's own pages. A nearby category may fit some of your work, so check Google's list before counting on it. If none fits your wheel powder coating, the money is better spent on what Google ranks for free. According to Google, local results mostly come down to relevance, distance and prominence, also described as popularity: a good match for the search, a short distance from the searcher and a business people know.

When powder coating leads come in
Paid leads cost the most when everyone wants them. For powder coating that is spring, when cars, bikes and patio furniture come out; in the weeks around the holidays the same budget buys more, and owned channels matter more.
| Month | Pace | What customers want |
|---|---|---|
| February | Get ready | Parts for the spring car shows |
| March | Busy | Wheels and parts before driving season |
| April | Busy | Patio furniture and railings |
| May | Busy | Bikes, wheels and furniture |
| September | Get ready | Fall projects and repaints |
Most of those customers are car and motorcycle owners, homeowners with tired patio furniture or railings, and small manufacturers with parts to finish, who want a price, a color and a ready date. The rest are fabricators, machine shops, fence and railing companies and small manufacturers, plus people sent by welders, wheel and tire shops, auto body shops, sandblasters and car clubs.
Shared lead sites and powder coating
In its 2025 annual report, Angi describes lead fees as owed for each consumer match, regardless of whether the pro ultimately provides the service. HomeAdvisor tells homeowners they will receive information for up to four pros, and that their details go to the matched pros as soon as the request is processed.
There is no charge to join Thumbtack and no annual or membership fee, according to its pro page.
Shared leads reward the fastest reply. Your customers are car and motorcycle owners, homeowners with tired patio furniture or railings, and small manufacturers with parts to finish, who want a price, a color and a ready date; reach them while they are still deciding, or the fee buys a conversation someone else already had. Compare the two biggest in Thumbtack vs Angi.
Cost per lead vs cost per powder coating job
Ignore the price per lead for a moment and look at the price per booked job: a month's spend divided by the jobs that source actually produced. Then compare it with what you keep on a set of four wheels or a full run of railings or a production batch of brackets. If the booked job costs more than it leaves you, the source is losing money however busy it feels.
The free cost per lead vs cost per job calculator does this with your numbers and shows what a better close rate is worth. The marketing budget planner works backward from the jobs you want.
Leads you own for powder coaters
- Reviews. Ask every customer the morning after the invoice is paid. Google says offering incentives, like free or discounted goods or services, in exchange for reviews is strictly prohibited. Koira sends the ask and drafts the reply (reviews).
- A price on your site. A set of four wheels priced from your own list, day or night, with booking on the same page (instant quotes).
- Photos of finished work. Each finished piece, with the material and the finish named, on your profile and your site. Koira posts a finished job each month from the photos you take (website).
- Referrals. From happy customers and from welders, wheel and tire shops, auto body shops, sandblasters and car clubs (referrals).
- Seasonal reminders. A note to past customers before spring, when cars, bikes and patio furniture come out (campaigns).
- Commercial buyers. A short, plain introduction to fabricators, machine shops, fence and railing companies and small manufacturers, then a stop if they do not reply (commercial outreach).
Whoever answers first
A customer comparing powder coaters usually books the first one who replies clearly. That is true whether the lead was free or cost money. When you cannot pick up, Koira's receptionist texts back within about a minute and offers three times from your day, so a request for patio furniture refinishing does not drift to the next powder coater. On Grow you pay $249 a month, plus the texts, call minutes and emails at cost. See the powder coating answering service guide for live and AI options and their published prices.
