Buying leads is the fast way to fill a waterproofing calendar, and building them is the cheap way. Most waterproofing companies need some of each: paid leads for an interior drain system with a new sump pump in a slow week, owned leads for steady basement waterproofing. Here is every common source and what each platform says about its own pricing and rules.
- Waterproofing is not named on Google's Local Services list as we read it.
- Lead platforms bill for introductions; judge each one by what a booked waterproofing job really cost.
- Answering fast matters most when the call is water coming into the basement during a storm; a missed call can still be a charged lead on Google.
- Reviews, a site with prices and mail to the street around each job keep bringing waterproofing work after the ad money stops.
Where waterproofing leads come from
Here is each common source for waterproofing companies, whether you own it or rent it, how you pay and how well it fits waterproofing.
| Source | Own or rent | How you pay | Fit for waterproofing companies |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Business Profile and reviews | Own | Free | The map listing decides most first calls for waterproofing companies; photos of your crawl space encapsulation help it win. |
| Your own site with a price | Own | Free on a Koira address | Lets someone price a sump pump replacement after dinner and book without a call. |
| Past customers and referrals | Own | A text, an email, a thank-you | Repeat work, like a yearly sump pump check before wet season, costs nothing per job once the customer is yours. |
| Neighbor postcards | Own | Per card | A dry, finished basement the family can finally use. A card the next morning reaches the street while it remembers. |
| Google Local Services Ads | Rent | Per lead | Waterproofing is not named on Google's eligible list as we read it. |
| Angi and HomeAdvisor | Rent | Per match, win or lose | A job like an interior drain system with a new sump pump can carry a few lead fees that go nowhere; a sump pump replacement cannot. |
| Thumbtack and Bark | Rent | Budget or credits | Buyers compare a handful of waterproofing companies at once, so speed decides who gets the job. |
| Writing to commercial buyers | Own | Time, or Koira Front Office | Property managers, home builders and small landlords hire again and again; one yes beats many one-off leads. |

Google Local Services Ads for waterproofing companies
Waterproofing is not named on Google's list of Local Services categories as we read it on Google's own pages. A nearby category may fit some of your work, so check Google's list before counting on it. If none fits your basement waterproofing, the money is better spent on what Google ranks for free. Google's help page on local ranking says local results are mainly based on relevance, distance and prominence (it also calls the last one popularity): how well your profile matches the search, how far you are from the searcher and how well known your business is.

When waterproofing leads come in
Paid leads cost the most when everyone wants them. For waterproofing that is spring thaw and the heavy rain seasons; in dry stretches of summer and the deep freeze of winter the same budget buys more, and owned channels matter more.
| Month | Pace | What customers want |
|---|---|---|
| February | Get ready | Thaws bring the first damp basements |
| March | Busy | Snowmelt and spring rain |
| April | Busy | Wet basements and failed sump pumps |
| May | Busy | Spring storms and home inspections |
| October | Get ready | Gutters and downspouts before winter |
Most of those customers are homeowners who just found water downstairs, worried about cost and mold, who want a straight diagnosis instead of a sales pitch. The rest are property managers, home builders and small landlords, plus people sent by home inspectors, realtors, plumbers and mold remediation companies.
Shared lead sites and waterproofing
In its 2025 annual report, Angi describes lead fees as owed for each consumer match, regardless of whether the pro ultimately provides the service. On HomeAdvisor, a homeowner's request is shared with up to four matched pros the moment it is processed.
Thumbtack says joining is free, with no annual or membership fees.
Shared leads reward the fastest reply. Your customers are homeowners who just found water downstairs, worried about cost and mold, who want a straight diagnosis instead of a sales pitch; reach them while they are still deciding, or the fee buys a conversation someone else already had. Compare the two biggest in Thumbtack vs Angi.
Cost per lead vs cost per waterproofing job
Ignore the price per lead for a moment and look at the price per booked job: a month's spend divided by the jobs that source actually produced. Then compare it with what you keep on a sump pump replacement or an interior drain system with a new sump pump. If the booked job costs more than it leaves you, the source is losing money however busy it feels.
The free cost per lead vs cost per job calculator does this with your numbers and shows what a better close rate is worth. The missed call calculator shows what calls that go to voicemail cost you before any lead fee.
Leads you own for waterproofing companies
- Reviews. Ask every customer an hour after the invoice is paid. Google strictly prohibits offering incentives such as free or discounted goods or services for reviews. Koira sends the ask and drafts the reply (reviews).
- A price on your site. A sump pump replacement priced from your own list, day or night, with booking on the same page (instant quotes).
- The street around each job. A dry, finished basement the family can finally use. Koira mails cards to the homes nearby most likely to hire you (neighbor postcards).
- Referrals. From happy customers and from home inspectors, realtors, plumbers and mold remediation companies (referrals).
- Repeat work. A yearly sump pump check before wet season, reminded before the season and sold on the first visit (campaigns, maintenance plans).
- Commercial buyers. A short, plain introduction to property managers, home builders and small landlords, then a stop if they do not reply (commercial outreach).
Whoever answers first
On a call about water coming into the basement during a storm, the customer rings down the list until someone picks up. That is true whether the lead was free or cost money. When you cannot pick up, Koira's receptionist texts back within about a minute and offers three times from your day, so a request for crawl space encapsulation does not drift to the next waterproofing contractor. On Grow you pay $249 a month, plus the texts, call minutes and emails at cost. See the waterproofing answering service guide for live and AI options and their published prices.
