Buying leads is the fast way to fill a drywall calendar, and building them is the cheap way. Most drywall contractors need some of each: paid leads for a basement hang, tape and finish in a slow week, owned leads for steady drywall repairs and patches. Here is every common source and what each platform says about its own pricing and rules.
- Drywall is not named on Google's Local Services list as we read it.
- Lead platforms bill for introductions; judge each one by what a booked drywall job really cost.
- Buyers compare drywall contractors, and the first clear reply wins most shared leads.
- Reviews, a site with prices and mail to the street around each job keep bringing drywall work after the ad money stops.
Where drywall leads come from
Here is each common source for drywall contractors, whether you own it or rent it, how you pay and how well it fits drywall.
| Source | Own or rent | How you pay | Fit for drywall contractors |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Business Profile and reviews | Own | Free | The map listing decides most first calls for drywall contractors; photos of your new hanging help it win. |
| Your own site with a price | Own | Free on a Koira address | Lets someone price a fist-sized patch after dinner and book without a call. |
| Past customers and referrals | Own | A text, an email, a thank-you | Referrals from remodelers, plumbers, painters and water damage restoration companies close more often than any bought lead. |
| Neighbor postcards | Own | Per card | A wall so smooth nobody can tell where the hole was. A card the next morning reaches the street while it remembers. |
| Google Local Services Ads | Rent | Per lead | Drywall is not named on Google's eligible list as we read it. |
| Angi and HomeAdvisor | Rent | Per match, win or lose | Small tickets like a fist-sized patch leave little room for fees on leads you do not win. |
| Thumbtack and Bark | Rent | Budget or credits | Buyers compare a handful of drywall contractors at once, so speed decides who gets the job. |
| Writing to commercial buyers | Own | Time, or Koira Front Office | Builders, remodelers, restoration companies and property managers hire again and again; one yes beats many one-off leads. |

Google Local Services Ads for drywall contractors
Drywall is not named on Google's list of Local Services categories as we read it on Google's own pages. A nearby category may fit some of your work, so check Google's list before counting on it. If none fits your drywall repairs and patches, the money is better spent on what Google ranks for free. Google's help page on local ranking says local results are mainly based on relevance, distance and prominence (it also calls the last one popularity): how well your profile matches the search, how far you are from the searcher and how well known your business is.

When drywall leads come in
Paid leads cost the most when everyone wants them. For drywall that is spring and fall remodel seasons; in the holidays the same budget buys more, and owned channels matter more.
| Month | Pace | What customers want |
|---|---|---|
| March | Busy | Spring remodel season |
| April | Busy | Basements and additions |
| September | Busy | Fall remodels |
| October | Busy | Finishing before the holidays |
Most of those customers are homeowners with a hole, a crack or a stained ceiling, and builders or remodelers who need a finisher they can count on. The rest are builders, remodelers, restoration companies and property managers, plus people sent by remodelers, plumbers, painters and water damage restoration companies.
Shared lead sites and drywall
In its 2025 annual report, Angi describes lead fees as owed for each consumer match, regardless of whether the pro ultimately provides the service. On HomeAdvisor, a homeowner's request is shared with up to four matched pros the moment it is processed.
Thumbtack lets you control your lead budget, which sets your lead volume, but it does not list lead prices on its pro page.
Shared leads reward the fastest reply. Your customers are homeowners with a hole, a crack or a stained ceiling, and builders or remodelers who need a finisher they can count on; reach them while they are still deciding, or the fee buys a conversation someone else already had. Compare the two biggest in Thumbtack vs Angi.
Cost per lead vs cost per drywall job
A lead price means nothing on its own for drywall contractors. What matters is what you paid for every job you actually won. Add up a month's spend on a source, divide by the drywall jobs it booked, and put that next to what you keep on each. If a basement hang, tape and finish is the job you are buying leads for, use what you keep on that job, not your average ticket.
The free cost per lead vs cost per job calculator does this with your numbers and shows what a better close rate is worth. The marketing budget planner works backward from the jobs you want.
Leads you own for drywall contractors
- Reviews. Ask every customer an hour after the invoice is paid. Offering anything for a review, like a discount or a free service, is strictly prohibited by Google. Koira sends the ask and drafts the reply (reviews).
- A price on your site. A fist-sized patch priced from your own list, day or night, with booking on the same page (instant quotes).
- The street around each job. A wall so smooth nobody can tell where the hole was. Koira mails cards to the homes nearby most likely to hire you (neighbor postcards).
- Referrals. From happy customers and from remodelers, plumbers, painters and water damage restoration companies (referrals).
- Seasonal reminders. A note to past customers before spring and fall remodel seasons (campaigns).
- Commercial buyers. A short, plain introduction to builders, remodelers, restoration companies and property managers, then a stop if they do not reply (commercial outreach).
Whoever answers first
A customer comparing drywall contractors usually books the first one who replies clearly. That is true whether the lead was free or cost money. When you cannot pick up, Koira's receptionist texts back within about a minute and offers three times from your day, so a request for new hanging does not drift to the next drywall contractor. On Grow you pay $249 a month, plus the texts, call minutes and emails at cost. See the drywall answering service guide for live and AI options and their published prices.
