What conduit means
Conduit is metal or plastic tubing that wires are pulled through to protect them, used where cable is not allowed or would be exposed to damage.
Also called EMT, PVC conduit, raceway.
Where it matters on a electrical job
Conduit runs take more labor than cable, so they move the price on garages, basements, outdoor runs and commercial work. Plan the run and the fill before you quote, since a second conduit is a second labor line.
What the model code says
- The code defines a raceway as an enclosed channel expressly for holding wires, cables or busbars. (IRC 2021, Chapter 35)
Check which code edition your building department enforces for conduit before you quote.
What it costs
For conduit, the closest koira.ai price is the rewiring a house cost guide, near $9,150 for a typical job and $6,650 to $11,500 for most. The guide shows its sources and what moves the price. The conduit fill calculator prices a job line by line.
