What GreenSky is

GreenSky is a customer financing provider. It is built for home improvement merchants in the US, from HVAC and roofing to pools, remodeling and windows.

  • GreenSky is not a bank. It runs the GreenSky consumer loan program for federally insured banks, which make the loans and the credit decisions.
  • It offers fixed-rate installment loans and promotional plans with no interest if the balance is paid in full during the promotional period.
  • Credit limits go up to $100,000, and applicants are approved for more credit where possible.
  • Merchants pay a fee each time they run a transaction, invoiced monthly for the previous month.
  • Staged funding lets you take progress payments up to a limit; pool projects can get up to 70% of the loan before decking.

How it works for a contractor

You apply to become a merchant and get a merchant number. Customers apply online, by phone or in the GreenSky app using that number, and provide basic details and photo ID.

When the customer authorizes a payment by text or email, the money reaches you within two business days. You can take progress payments up to your staged funding limit through the merchant portal, and the final the same way.

Who GreenSky fits

  • Larger home improvement projects that need high credit limits
  • Jobs paid in stages, using staged funding
  • Contractors comfortable with a merchant fee per transaction

What to ask before you sign up

  • The merchant fee is not published; ask sales for it before you price jobs
  • Promotional plans need the customer to pay in full during the promotion to avoid interest; make sure they understand the plan
  • Applications must be electronic; paper, fax and email applications are not accepted

Financing on Koira's pay page

Koira's pay page offers Affirm or Klarna on invoices from $50 to $30,000, on every plan. The customer chooses to pay over time on the same page where they would pay by card, applies on their own phone, and the lender decides approval and terms. You never run credit or fill in a lender form.

What you pay is Stripe's published rate for the method the customer picks, Affirm 6% + 30¢ or Klarna 5.99% + 30¢, plus Koira's share of 2% on Office, 1% on Grow or 0.5% on Front Office. For jobs above $30,000, or if you want a dedicated home improvement lender, a provider like GreenSky can sit next to it.

Not financial adviceLenders set rates, terms and approval. Read each provider's agreement before you offer it, and let the lender give the customer their disclosures.
