Price shopper call script

"How much do you charge?" is the first question on most calls. This script answers it honestly, gives a range, and turns the call toward a visit instead of a bidding war.

The call

Call
Caller: "How much do you charge for [Job]?" You: "Good question. Most [Job] jobs we do come in between [Low price] and [High price]. Where yours lands depends on [Thing that changes price 1] and [Thing that changes price 2]." Ask: "Can you tell me about yours? How big is it, and how old is what's there now?" Narrow it: "From what you're telling me, I'd expect it closer to [Narrower range]. I can give you an exact price once I see it." Book: "I can come look [Day] at [Time], and you'll have a written price before I leave. Would that work?" If they push for one number: "I'd rather not guess and have to change it on you. The visit is [Visit fee or free], and the price I give you then is the price."

Price from photos

Text
Hi [Customer name], it's [Your name] from [Your business]. If you can text me two or three photos of the [Job], plus a rough size, I'll send you a price range today and we can set a time to firm it up.

After a price-only call

Text
Hi [Customer name], thanks for calling about the [Job]. As I mentioned, most come in between [Low price] and [High price]. When you're ready for an exact price, reply here and I'll come take a look. [Your name], [Your business]

When to send a price shopper call script

Use it whenever the first question is price. Giving a real range builds trust; refusing to say anything sends the caller to someone who will. The range should be honest, from your own past jobs or your price list.

How to make it yours

  • Give a range from your own jobs, not a number you heard elsewhere.
  • Name what moves the price, so the range makes sense.
  • Ask questions before narrowing. The customer feels heard and you get the facts.
  • Do not haggle on the phone. Offer a smaller option instead of a lower price for the same work.

A Get a price button on your Koira site answers price shoppers from your own price list, day or night, and can measure a roof or a lawn from above for the first number. When the price works, the customer books on the same page. Anything not on your list comes to you as one question: what do you charge for this?

Koira's free Office plan includes estimates, invoices and card payments. See pricing for what each plan sends for you.

FAQ

Should I give a price over the phone?

Give an honest range for the job type and explain what moves it. Save the exact price for after you see the job or photos, unless it is simple, fixed-price work.

How do I deal with customers who only care about price?

Explain what the price includes, offer a smaller option if budget is the issue, and do not cut the price for the same work. Some callers will go elsewhere, and that is fine.

Should I charge for estimates?

That is your call. Many trades give free estimates for replacement work and charge a diagnostic or trip fee for repairs. If you charge, say so before the visit.

Can I give prices from photos?

For many jobs, yes, as a range. Ask for two or three photos and a rough size, then firm up the price on site.
