Auto detailing is sold on photos. People search car detailing near me, scroll through results and choose based on before and after shots, reviews and clear packages. This guide covers how local search works for detailers, how mobile and shop businesses differ on Google, and what to skip.
- Google says local results come from relevance, distance and prominence. Profile, pages and reviews are what you control.
- Packages, ceramic coatings and paint correction are separate searches. Give each a page.
- Mobile detailers are service-area businesses: hide the address and list the areas you serve.
- Before and after photos are your strongest content.
- Never offer a discount for a review; Google forbids it.
How Google decides which auto detailers to show
According to Google, local results mostly come down to relevance, distance and prominence, also described as popularity: a good match for the search, a short distance from the searcher and a business people know.
Most auto detailing buyers start with one of two searches: "Car detailing near me", which Google answers with the map, or "Ceramic coating cost", which it answers with web pages. Each is won a different way.
Three kinds of auto detailing searches
| Search | The customer | What wins |
|---|---|---|
| Car detailing near me | Wants it done soon | Listing, photos, packages |
| Ceramic coating cost | Researching a big purchase | A page that explains |
| Mobile detailing | Wants you to come to them | Service area and booking |
Near me searches go to the map. Photos and stars decide. A profile full of real results stands out.
Coating and correction searches are research. Explain the process, how long it lasts and how to care for it.
Mobile searches need clear service areas and online booking.
When auto detailing searches pick up
Demand for auto detailing is not flat. It peaks around spring and the weeks before holidays and car shows and drops in the coldest, saltiest weeks of winter. Pages and posts that match the season should be live before these months:
- March (get ready): spring cleaning for cars
- April (busy): pollen season and spring details
- May (busy): ceramic coatings before summer
- June (busy): road trips and car shows
- July (busy): summer details
- October (get ready): holiday gift cards
- December (busy): gift cards and year-end details
Step 1: the Business Profile
Three rules in Google's guidelines trip up more auto detailers than anything else:
- Real name only. Stuffing services or towns into the name breaks Google's guidelines and can lead to a suspension. "Westbrook Auto Detailing" is fine. "Westbrook Auto Detailing Full interior and exterior details Ceramic coatings Near Me" is not.
- Few categories. Google wants the fewest categories that describe what the business mainly is.
- Service area, address hidden. Google says service-area businesses should hide their address. Google says a service area should not extend farther than about 2 hours of driving time from where the business is based.
Before and after shots of paint, interiors, wheels and engine bays. Add your rig or shop and you at work. Keep the name, phone and hours exactly the same as on your website. Koira keeps Google and Bing listings in step with your site.
Step 2: the pages an auto detailing site needs
A single "services" page cannot match every search an auto detailing customer types. Give Google one page per thing people look for.
- Packages. What each includes and how long it takes.
- Ceramic coating. Prep, correction, durability and care.
- Paint correction. Swirls, scratches and what is fixable.
- Interior detailing. Stains, odors and pet hair.
- Fleet and dealership work if you do it.
- Service areas if mobile, with booking at the top.
A clear page title says what and where: "Ceramic coatings in Brandon, FL | Westbrook Auto Detailing". Google's starter guide says keyword stuffing is against its spam policies. Koira builds those service and town pages for you, from your business and price list.
Step 3: every finished job is proof
Each car is a before and after. Post one a month with the town, the car and the package. It gives Google new pages and buyers proof.
If writing posts is the part you will never get to, Koira posts a finished job each month from the photos you already take on your phone.
Step 4: reviews from every job
Google counts links to your website and the number of reviews you have toward prominence. A steady run of recent reviews tells both Google and the next auto detailing customer that you are busy, local and careful.
Offering anything for a review, like a discount or a free service, is strictly prohibited by Google. Asking only happy customers, or steering people away from negative reviews, is against Google's Maps policy.
- Send the ask the same day the invoice is paid, to every customer.
- Reply to every review and mention the car and the package. Car people notice details.
- For complaints, the free review reply generator drafts a calm reply for any star rating.
Koira asks for the review an hour after payment and drafts the reply.
Check where you stand
Koira's free AI report shows your search results, listings, reviews and website the way a customer sees them, next to auto detailers near you.
Step 5: links you already have a reason to get
Links to your site count toward prominence, according to Google's local ranking page. Useful links: coating manufacturers' installer listings if you are certified, body shops and dealerships you work with, and local car clubs.
What to skip
- Guaranteed rankings. Google is plain about it: you cannot request or pay for a better local ranking.
- Fake offices. A virtual office, meaning a rented address you do not work from, is not eligible for a Business Profile under Google's guidelines.
- The keywords meta tag. Google's starter guide says Google Search does not use the keywords meta tag.
How to tell if it is working
- Calls, website clicks and direction requests from your Business Profile, by month.
- Requests for full interior and exterior details and ceramic coatings that came from your site.
- Reviews per month compared with jobs finished.
- Where each booked auto detailing job came from.
Give it a season before you judge. Google's starter guide says some changes show in a few hours and others take several months. Koira's reporting shows dollars paid on jobs Koira touched first, next to what Koira cost.
Paid leads alongside SEO
SEO takes months; some weeks you need calls now. Google lists "Car Detailing Service" for Local Services Ads, which charge per lead and sit above the map. See auto detailing leads: where to buy them and how to need fewer, and auto detailing marketing ideas for the rest of the plan.
Where Koira fits
Everything above can be done by hand. If you would rather be on the job, Koira does the repeating parts: a site built from your business with Book online and Get a price, town and service pages, matching listings, review asks and a monthly post. The site, estimates and invoices are free on Office; the receptionist and text-back are on Grow at $249 a month plus usage at cost. See pricing or how a detailing business runs on Koira.
Questions contractors ask
How do detailers rank on Google Maps?
Verify your profile, set the right business type (shop or service area), add packages and photos, and ask every customer for a review.
Should a mobile detailer show an address?
Google says service-area businesses should remove the address if customers do not come to them, and list service areas instead.
What photos work best for detailing?
Before and after pairs in good light: paint, interiors, wheels. Your own work only.
Can I give a discount for a Google review?
No. Google says offering incentives, like free or discounted goods or services, in exchange for reviews is strictly prohibited.
