Every auto detailing business needs a steady flow of new customers. Some of that flow can be bought by the lead, from Google, Angi, Thumbtack and others. Some of it you can build so it keeps coming without a fee per job: reviews, your own site, the neighbors of every job and the people who refer you. This page sorts the two for auto detailing, using each platform's own pages for the rules.
- "Car Detailing Service" is on Google's Local Services list, so auto detailers can buy leads there after screening.
- Lead platforms bill for introductions; judge each one by what a booked auto detailing job really cost.
- Buyers compare auto detailers, and the first clear reply wins most shared leads.
- Reviews, a site with prices and mail to the street around each job keep bringing auto detailing work after the ad money stops.
Where auto detailing leads come from
Here is each common source for auto detailers, whether you own it or rent it, how you pay and how well it fits auto detailing.
| Source | Own or rent | How you pay | Fit for auto detailers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Business Profile and reviews | Own | Free | The map listing decides most first calls for auto detailers; photos of your ceramic coatings help it win. |
| Your own site with a price | Own | Free on a Koira address | Lets someone price an interior refresh after dinner and book without a call. |
| Past customers and referrals | Own | A text, an email, a thank-you | Repeat work, like a monthly maintenance wash, costs nothing per job once the customer is yours. |
| Neighbor postcards | Own | Per card | A car that looks newer than the day it was bought, parked in the driveway. A card the next morning reaches the street while it remembers. |
| Google Local Services Ads | Rent | Per lead | "Car Detailing Service" is on Google's eligible list. Works best when your reviews are strong and replies are fast. |
| Angi and HomeAdvisor | Rent | Per match, win or lose | Small tickets like an interior refresh leave little room for fees on leads you do not win. |
| Thumbtack and Bark | Rent | Budget or credits | Buyers compare a handful of auto detailers at once, so speed decides who gets the job. |
| Writing to commercial buyers | Own | Time, or Koira Front Office | Car dealerships, fleet managers and rental agencies hire again and again; one yes beats many one-off leads. |

Google Local Services Ads for auto detailers
Auto detailers can buy Local Services Ads: "Car Detailing Service" is one of Google's eligible categories, open after screening. Local Services Ads charge for leads that relate to your business and services, never for clicks. Google does not publish a price list; it says lead prices depend on your location, the job type, the type of lead and your bidding mode.
Even a call you miss can be billed: Google's help page says a missed call in business hours counts when the caller waits more than 20 seconds. Google reviews leads for 30 days and credits the ones it finds to be poor quality, duplicate or invalid.
Google ranks Local Services ads by your bid and profile quality: rating, number of reviews, response time, photos and the verification checks you completed. Google suggests getting 5 or more reviews, and some business types need 5 before the ad will show. The full rules are on Local Services Ads for contractors; the setup guide walks through signing up.
When auto detailing leads come in
Paid leads cost the most when everyone wants them. For auto detailing that is spring and the weeks before holidays and car shows; in the coldest, saltiest weeks of winter the same budget buys more, and owned channels matter more.
| Month | Pace | What customers want |
|---|---|---|
| March | Get ready | Spring cleaning for cars |
| April | Busy | Pollen season and spring details |
| May | Busy | Ceramic coatings before summer |
| June | Busy | Road trips and car shows |
| July | Busy | Summer details |
| October | Get ready | Holiday gift cards |
| December | Busy | Gift cards and year-end details |
Most of those customers are car owners who scroll photos, compare packages and book the detailer whose results look best. The rest are car dealerships, fleet managers and rental agencies, plus people sent by body shops, car dealers and window tint shops.
Shared lead sites and auto detailing
Angi's 2025 annual report says pros pay lead fees for consumer matches whether or not they end up doing the job. HomeAdvisor tells homeowners they will receive information for up to four pros, and that their details go to the matched pros as soon as the request is processed.
There is no charge to join Thumbtack and no annual or membership fee, according to its pro page.
Shared leads reward the fastest reply. Your customers are car owners who scroll photos, compare packages and book the detailer whose results look best; reach them while they are still deciding, or the fee buys a conversation someone else already had. Compare the two biggest in Thumbtack vs Angi.
Cost per lead vs cost per auto detailing job
A lead price means nothing on its own for auto detailers. What matters is what you paid for every job you actually won. Add up a month's spend on a source, divide by the auto detailing jobs it booked, and put that next to what you keep on each. If a paint correction and ceramic coating is the job you are buying leads for, use what you keep on that job, not your average ticket.
The free cost per lead vs cost per job calculator does this with your numbers and shows what a better close rate is worth. The marketing budget planner works backward from the jobs you want.
Leads you own for auto detailers
- Reviews. Ask every customer an hour after the invoice is paid. Offering anything for a review, like a discount or a free service, is strictly prohibited by Google. Koira sends the ask and drafts the reply (reviews).
- A price on your site. An interior refresh priced from your own list, day or night, with booking on the same page (instant quotes).
- The street around each job. A car that looks newer than the day it was bought, parked in the driveway. Koira mails cards to the homes nearby most likely to hire you (neighbor postcards).
- Referrals. From happy customers and from body shops, car dealers and window tint shops (referrals).
- Repeat work. A monthly maintenance wash, reminded before the season and sold on the first visit (campaigns, maintenance plans).
- Commercial buyers. A short, plain introduction to car dealerships, fleet managers and rental agencies, then a stop if they do not reply (commercial outreach).
Whoever answers first
A customer comparing auto detailers usually books the first one who replies clearly. That is true whether the lead was free or cost money. When you cannot pick up, Koira's receptionist texts back within about a minute and offers three times from your day, so a request for ceramic coatings does not drift to the next detailer. Koira Grow is $249 a month plus usage at cost: texts, call minutes and emails with nothing added. See the auto detailing answering service guide for live and AI options and their published prices.
