Get paid at the door

The best time to get paid is before you pull out of the driveway. Koira turns the invoice into a QR code on your phone that the customer scans and pays from their own phone. No card reader to carry.

Quick answer

Turn on card payments once under Settings › Getting paid. At the job, open the invoice and tap Collect: the customer scans the QR code with their phone camera and pays by Apple Pay, Google Pay or card, with a payment plan on bigger amounts. Cash and checks go on the same invoice with Record payment.

Step by step

  1. Turn on card payments once

Go to Settings and open Getting paid, then Set up card payments. Koira opens a Stripe account in your name; Stripe's steps run inside Koira. What each payment costs is in card fees, explained.

  2. Have the invoice ready

An accepted estimate's payment plan makes its invoices for you (see below), or start one from Bids with New invoice. Turn on Tips on the pay page if you want the customer to be able to add a tip.

  3. Tap Collect

Open the invoice and tap Collect. Koira draws a QR code for the amount due. The customer points their phone camera at it and pays.

  4. Or text them the link

In the same sheet, Text them the link sends the pay link to their cell, and Copy link puts it on your clipboard.

  5. Watch it go to paid

When Stripe confirms the payment the invoice shows paid, with what Stripe and Koira kept and what you get. Send a receipt with Receipt.

How the customer can pay

From the QR code or the link, the customer pays on their own phone with Apple Pay, Google Pay or a card, and on bigger amounts they can pick a payment plan. The money goes to your Stripe account and on to your bank. More on pay at the door and financing.

Cash, check, Zelle, Venmo, Cash App

Open the invoice and tap Record payment. The amount starts at the balance; change it for a partial payment, pick the method (cash, check, Zelle, Venmo, Cash App or other) and add a note. Your Zelle, Venmo and Cash App handles, set under Getting paid, also show on the pay page, so a customer who prefers them knows where to send it.

Before card payments are on

The pay page still works: it shows your Zelle, Venmo and Cash App handles and the line you set under them, such as Cash or check on the day works too. Tips on the pay page need card payments on.

Deposits and paying in stages

A deposit taken when the estimate is signed is already on the invoice. Bigger jobs can be billed in stages: a deposit, progress payments and a balance on completion. Each stage becomes its own invoice when its moment comes (the customer signs, the work starts, the job is done, or a date you set), with its own pay link. See deposits and invoices.

FAQ

Do I need a card reader?

No. The customer pays on their own phone by scanning the QR code on yours.

Can I take a tip?

Yes. Turn on Tips on the pay page for the invoice, and the customer can add one when paying by card. Koira's share is never taken on the tip.

What if the customer wants to pay later?

Tap Text them the link and they can pay from the text when they are ready.

Can I record a partial payment?

Yes. Record payment starts at the balance; type the amount they paid instead.
