What kick-out flashing means

Kick-out flashing is a bent piece at the bottom of a roof to wall joint that throws water out into the gutter instead of down the face of the wall.

Also called diverter flashing.

Where it matters on a roofing job

Where a lower roof dies into a wall, the water running down the step flashing has to go somewhere. Without a kick-out it soaks the wall right where nobody can see it, and the rot shows up as soft sheathing and stained trim. It is a cheap part to add to every reroof or siding job that has one of these corners.

What it costs

Koira's siding repair cost guide puts a typical job at $1,400, with most between $820 to $1,950. The guide shows its sources and what moves the price.
