What support material means
Support material is temporary structure printed under overhangs and bridges so they do not sag, then broken or dissolved away when the print is done. It can leave rough marks where it touched the part.
Also called supports, support structures.
Where it matters on a 3D printing job
Supports add material, print time and hand cleanup, and a part that needs heavy support can cost much more than its size suggests. Orient the part to need less support, and price post processing such as sanding as its own line.
