What skylight installation costs
Most homeowners pay $1,050 to $2,000 for skylight installation, and $1,500 is a typical price. One standard skylight installed in a pitched roof, with flashing and interior finish.
| Price | |
|---|---|
| Low end | $1,050 |
| Typical | $1,500 |
| High end | $2,000 |
Sources: Fixr and Today's Homeowner, combined as shown below. Local wages shift the typical price from about $1,362 in Arkansas to $1,731 in Hawaii.
What drives the price
- Type. Fixed skylights are the cheap end. Venting skylights that open, with remote or solar control, cost more. Fixr's low end is a $647 tube light in a small room.
- Replace or new. Swapping an old skylight is simpler. A new one means cutting the roof, framing the opening and building a shaft to the ceiling.
- The roof. Steep or tile roofs take longer to work on and to flash.
- Size. Larger units cost more and may need a wider framed opening.

How we got these numbers
| Guide | Range | Average | Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fixr | $1,080 to $1,966 | $1,523 | Counted |
| Today's Homeowner | $1,000 to $2,000 | Not given | Counted |
We take the middle of the guides' lows for the low end, the middle of their highs for the high end, and the middle of their averages for the typical skylight installation price. Where a guide gives no average we use its midpoint. All read on October 9, 2026.
Labor share used: 40%. None of the guides splits labor out for this job, so this share is Koira's working assumption for windows work. State factor: the state's median hourly wage for construction and extraction workers over the national $28.63 (BLS, May 2025), kept between 0.7 and 1.4.
