What drives the price
- Area. Drywall is priced by the square foot or the sheet. Bob Vila puts a sheet at about $12 to $20.
- Finish level. A garage might stop at taped joints. Living space gets a smooth level 4 or 5 finish, which takes more coats and sanding.
- Board type. Moisture-resistant board for baths, fire-rated board for garages and soundproof board cost more than standard.
- Ceilings and height. Ceilings and tall walls are slower and need lifts or scaffolding.
- Whole house or one room. Fixr notes most installers charge less per square foot on a whole house than on a single room.

How we got these numbers
| Guide | Range | Average | Use |

| Fixr | $1,600 to $3,500 | $2,000 | Counted |
| HomeAdvisor | $1,000 to $3,253 | $2,104 | Counted |
We take the middle of the guides' lows for the low end, the middle of their highs for the high end, and the middle of their averages for the typical drywall installation price. Where a guide gives no average we use its midpoint. All read on October 9, 2026.
Labor share used: 70%. None of the guides splits labor out for this job, so this share is Koira's working assumption for walls and ceilings work. State factor: the state's median hourly wage for construction and extraction workers over the national $28.63 (BLS, May 2025), kept between 0.7 and 1.4.
