Wallpaper cost by type
| Paper | Paper a sq ft (HomeAdvisor) |
|---|---|
| Peel and stick | $0.70 to $1.50 |
| Water-resistant | $1.50 to $2.50 |
| Foil or mylar | $2.15 to $2.70 |
| Embossed | $2.30 to $3.70 |
| Flocked | $2.30 to $5.90 |
For these, the calculator adds HomeAdvisor's labor of $1 to $7 a square foot. For vinyl-coated paper it uses Fixr's installed rate of $3.70 to $8.20.
Measuring a room
Multiply the room's perimeter by the wall height, then subtract doors and windows. Fixr's table puts 144 square feet at $535 to $1,180 and 240 square feet at $890 to $1,970. Big pattern repeats waste more paper, so order extra.
Wall prep and old paper
New paper needs smooth, primed walls. Fixr puts stripping old wallpaper at $650 to $950, $740 average. Damaged drywall underneath adds repair time before hanging.
A worked example
Three hundred square feet of vinyl-coated paper comes to $1,110 to $2,460, about $1,785 typical. A 120 square foot accent wall in peel and stick is about $612. Enter a ZIP to scale the 60% labor share.
Quoting wallpaper
- Who buys the paper? Say whether the price includes it.
- Price prep separately. Stripping and skim coating.
- Pattern match. Large repeats take longer.
