There are two kinds of leads for movers: the ones you rent and the ones you own. Rented leads arrive the day you pay and stop the day you stop. Owned leads, from reviews, your site, past customers and referrals, take longer to build and then cost almost nothing per job. Below is where each kind comes from for moving, with each platform's rules from its own pages.
- "Moving services" is on Google's Local Services list, so movers can buy leads there after screening.
- Shared lead sites charge for the introduction, not the job. Measure them by cost per moving job won.
- Buyers compare movers, and the first clear reply wins most shared leads.
- Owned leads, like reviews, a price on your site and cards to the neighbors, keep working after you stop paying.
Where moving leads come from
Each row is a place moving leads come from, how it charges and our read on the fit for movers.
| Source | Own or rent | How you pay | Fit for movers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Business Profile and reviews | Own | Free | Where most people looking for moving start. Reviews that mention local moves and the town do the selling. |
| Your own site with a price | Own | Free on a Koira address | A Get a price button answers the first question about a studio apartment move at any hour. |
| Past customers and referrals | Own | A text, an email, a thank-you | Realtors and past customers send the warmest leads you will get. |
| Neighbor postcards | Own | Per card | A truck with your name on it parked in front of a house all day. The homes nearby get a card with that photo the next day. |
| Google Local Services Ads | Rent | Per lead | "Moving services" is on Google's eligible list. Works best when your reviews are strong and replies are fast. |
| Angi and HomeAdvisor | Rent | Per match, win or lose | A job like a full four-bedroom house move with packing can carry a few lead fees that go nowhere; a studio apartment move cannot. |
| Thumbtack and Bark | Rent | Budget or credits | Customers often contact several movers. The first clear price wins most of them. |
| Writing to commercial buyers | Own | Time, or Koira Front Office | One contract with office managers can replace dozens of one-time leads. |
All lead sources compared lists each platform's published prices next to Koira's, with the same columns.
Google Local Services Ads for movers
Google lists "Moving services" among the categories eligible for Local Services Ads, so movers can run them once they pass Google's screening. Local Services Ads charge for leads that relate to your business and services, never for clicks. Google does not publish a price list; it says lead prices depend on your location, the job type, the type of lead and your bidding mode.
Even a call you miss can be billed: Google's help page says a missed call in business hours counts when the caller waits more than 20 seconds. Google reviews leads for 30 days and credits the ones it finds to be poor quality, duplicate or invalid.
Ranking comes down to your bid plus profile quality: rating, number of reviews, how fast you respond, photos and the verification checks you have passed. Some categories need 5 reviews to show at all, and Google recommends 5 or more for everyone. For the rules in full, see Google Local Services Ads for contractors and the setup guide.
When moving leads come in
Lead volume follows the season. For movers it peaks around late spring through summer and the end of every month and drops in midwinter, which changes what a paid lead is worth from month to month.
| Month | Pace | What customers want |
|---|---|---|
| March | Get ready | Spring quotes |
| April | Busy | Spring moves and home sales |
| May | Busy | Graduations and lease ends |
| June | Busy | Summer peak and end of month rushes |
| July | Busy | Peak moving season |
| August | Busy | Back to school and college moves |
Expect people with a date and a deadline who compare quotes, read reviews closely and worry about damage and hidden fees, along with office managers, property managers and senior living communities and referrals from realtors, apartment complexes, storage facilities and senior living staff.
Shared lead sites and moving
Angi's 2025 annual report says pros pay lead fees for consumer matches whether or not they end up doing the job. Bark prices each lead in credits, set by the service, how much the job is worth and how many pros are chasing it locally.
Thumbtack says joining is free, with no annual or membership fees.
What decides shared moving leads is speed. Your customers are people with a date and a deadline who compare quotes, read reviews closely and worry about damage and hidden fees. If you reply hours later, you paid for an introduction to a customer who already booked someone else. Thumbtack vs Angi puts the two biggest side by side.
Cost per lead vs cost per moving job
Ignore the price per lead for a moment and look at the price per booked job: a month's spend divided by the jobs that source actually produced. Then compare it with what you keep on a studio apartment move or a full four-bedroom house move with packing. If the booked job costs more than it leaves you, the source is losing money however busy it feels.
Run your own numbers through the free cost per lead calculator; it also shows the close rate where a source breaks even. The marketing budget planner works backward from the jobs you want.
Leads you own for movers
- Reviews. Ask everyone, right after they pay, with a link straight to the review form. Google strictly prohibits offering incentives such as free or discounted goods or services for reviews. Koira's review engine sends the ask and drafts each reply.
- A price on your site. A studio apartment move priced from your own list, day or night, with booking on the same page (instant quotes).
- The street around each job. A truck with your name on it parked in front of a house all day. Neighbor postcards go to the likely homes around the job the next morning.
- Referrals. From happy customers and from realtors, apartment complexes, storage facilities and senior living staff (referrals).
- Seasonal reminders. A note to past customers before late spring through summer and the end of every month (campaigns).
- Commercial buyers. Three short emails to office managers, property managers and senior living communities near you, then stop (commercial outreach).
Whoever answers first
A customer comparing movers usually books the first one who replies clearly. It does not matter whether the lead came free or cost you a fee. Koira's receptionist answers on your number and texts missed callers back in about a minute with three open times for a studio apartment move or a look at a full four-bedroom house move with packing. On Grow you pay $249 a month, plus the texts, call minutes and emails at cost. See the moving answering service guide for live and AI options and their published prices.
