There are two kinds of leads for chimney sweeps: the ones you rent and the ones you own. Rented leads arrive the day you pay and stop the day you stop. Owned leads, from reviews, your site, past customers and referrals, take longer to build and then cost almost nothing per job. Below is where each kind comes from for chimney, with each platform's rules from its own pages.
- Chimney is not named on Google's Local Services list as we read it.
- Lead platforms bill for introductions; judge each one by what a booked chimney job really cost.
- Answering fast matters most when the call is smoke coming into the house or a chimney fire scare; a missed call can still be a charged lead on Google.
- Reviews, a site with prices and mail to the street around each job keep bringing chimney work after the ad money stops.
Where chimney leads come from
Here is each common source for chimney sweeps, whether you own it or rent it, how you pay and how well it fits chimney.
| Source | Own or rent | How you pay | Fit for chimney sweeps |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Business Profile and reviews | Own | Free | The map listing decides most first calls for chimney sweeps; photos of your chimney inspections help it win. |
| Your own site with a price | Own | Free on a Koira address | Lets someone price a sweep and inspection after dinner and book without a call. |
| Past customers and referrals | Own | A text, an email, a thank-you | Repeat work, like a yearly sweep and inspection, costs nothing per job once the customer is yours. |
| Neighbor postcards | Own | Per card | A new chimney cap and crown that neighbors notice from the street. A card the next morning reaches the street while it remembers. |
| Google Local Services Ads | Rent | Per lead | Chimney is not named on Google's eligible list as we read it. |
| Angi and HomeAdvisor | Rent | Per match, win or lose | Small tickets like a sweep and inspection leave little room for fees on leads you do not win. |
| Thumbtack and Bark | Rent | Budget or credits | Buyers compare a handful of chimney sweeps at once, so speed decides who gets the job. |
| Writing to commercial buyers | Own | Time, or Koira Front Office | Property managers, restaurants with wood ovens and inns hire again and again; one yes beats many one-off leads. |

Google Local Services Ads for chimney sweeps
Chimney is not named on Google's list of Local Services categories as we read it on Google's own pages. A nearby category may fit some of your work, so check Google's list before counting on it. If none fits your chimney sweeps, the money is better spent on what Google ranks for free. According to Google, local results mostly come down to relevance, distance and prominence, also described as popularity: a good match for the search, a short distance from the searcher and a business people know.

When chimney leads come in
Paid leads cost the most when everyone wants them. For chimney that is early fall before the first fire; in late spring and summer the same budget buys more, and owned channels matter more.
| Month | Pace | What customers want |
|---|---|---|
| August | Get ready | Fall booking opens |
| September | Busy | Sweeps before the first fire |
| October | Busy | Peak sweep season |
| November | Busy | First fires and smoke problems |
Most of those customers are homeowners who want the chimney safe before the first fire, and buyers who need an inspection before closing. The rest are property managers, restaurants with wood ovens and inns, plus people sent by home inspectors, realtors, roofers and fireplace stores.
Shared lead sites and chimney
Angi's 2025 annual report describes its lead revenue as fees paid by pros for consumer matches, regardless of whether the pro ultimately provides the requested service. HomeAdvisor tells homeowners they will receive information for up to four pros, and that their details go to the matched pros as soon as the request is processed.
You set your own lead budget on Thumbtack, and that budget decides how many leads you get; the page shows no lead prices.
Shared leads reward the fastest reply. Your customers are homeowners who want the chimney safe before the first fire, and buyers who need an inspection before closing; reach them while they are still deciding, or the fee buys a conversation someone else already had. Compare the two biggest in Thumbtack vs Angi.
Cost per lead vs cost per chimney job
A lead price means nothing on its own for chimney sweeps. What matters is what you paid for every job you actually won. Add up a month's spend on a source, divide by the chimney jobs it booked, and put that next to what you keep on each. If a stainless liner install with a new cap is the job you are buying leads for, use what you keep on that job, not your average ticket.
The free cost per lead vs cost per job calculator does this with your numbers and shows what a better close rate is worth. The missed call calculator shows what calls that go to voicemail cost you before any lead fee.
Leads you own for chimney sweeps
- Reviews. Ask every customer an hour after the invoice is paid. Google says offering incentives, like free or discounted goods or services, in exchange for reviews is strictly prohibited. Koira sends the ask and drafts the reply (reviews).
- A price on your site. A sweep and inspection priced from your own list, day or night, with booking on the same page (instant quotes).
- The street around each job. A new chimney cap and crown that neighbors notice from the street. Koira mails cards to the homes nearby most likely to hire you (neighbor postcards).
- Referrals. From happy customers and from home inspectors, realtors, roofers and fireplace stores (referrals).
- Repeat work. A yearly sweep and inspection, reminded before the season and sold on the first visit (campaigns, maintenance plans).
- Commercial buyers. A short, plain introduction to property managers, restaurants with wood ovens and inns, then a stop if they do not reply (commercial outreach).
Whoever answers first
On a call about smoke coming into the house or a chimney fire scare, the customer rings down the list until someone picks up. That is true whether the lead was free or cost money. When you cannot pick up, Koira's receptionist texts back within about a minute and offers three times from your day, so a request for chimney inspections does not drift to the next chimney sweep. On Grow you pay $249 a month, plus the texts, call minutes and emails at cost. See the chimney answering service guide for live and AI options and their published prices.
