What HSPF means
HSPF is the heating seasonal performance factor of a heat pump: heat delivered over a season divided by the electricity used. HSPF2 is the newer test version. Higher is more efficient.
Also called HSPF2, heating seasonal performance factor.
Where it matters on a HVAC job
In cold climates, HSPF and the unit's capacity at low outdoor temperatures matter more than SEER. When a customer is switching from gas to a heat pump, show both, and talk about backup heat honestly.
What it costs
Jobs that involve HSPF are priced in the heat pump installation cost guide: about $6,650 typical, usually $5,000 to $7,950. The guide shows its sources and what moves the price. The seer savings calculator prices a job line by line.
