What this checklist covers

ENERGY STAR advises checking the heating system in fall. Its heating items are checking gas or oil connections, gas pressure, burner combustion and the heat exchanger. It warns that faulty gas or oil connections are a fire hazard and can contribute to health problems, and that a dirty burner or cracked heat exchanger makes equipment run less safely and efficiently.

The venting and carbon monoxide checks are standard practice on fuel-burning equipment; follow the manufacturer's instructions and your local code. For cooling, use the spring checklist.

How to use it

Tick each item as you go. The sheet saves in this browser, so you can close the page and come back. Print a blank copy for the truck, or fill it in on your phone and print or save it as a PDF for the customer at the end.
