Your counter list

The items landscapers buy every week, from the van stock on our tools list. Ask each supplier for a price on these first; they decide which account saves you the most.

ItemWhy it is on the list
Trimmer line, blades and filtersDaily wear parts
Mulch, landscape fabric and staplesBed refreshes
Contractor bags and tarpsLeaf and debris hauling
Fuel mix and bar oilEvery small engine
Spark plugs, belts and air filtersField repairs

For the first order, price the starter kit too: commercial walk-behind mower; string trimmer; backpack blower; hedge trimmer; open landscape trailer with ramp; shovels, rakes, edgers and a wheelbarrow; gas cans, oil and a spare parts box; hearing and eye protection, gloves and steel-toe boots. Bigger purchases to price at a dealer or rental house: zero-turn or stand-on mower; chainsaw; sod cutter, tiller or mini skid steer rental; pole pruner; spreader and sprayer; enclosed trailer.

Opening a trade account

Bring your business name, tax ID and license number, and a credit application if you want terms. The big-box programs are compared row by row on Home Depot Pro vs Lowe's Pro. For the tools themselves, the landscaping tools list has prices read on the makers' own sites (Toro, STIHL).

When supplier prices change

Update your landscaping price list the same week a supplier raises prices. In Koira, that price list is what your estimates are built from.
