What fiber cement siding means
Fiber cement siding is made of cement, sand and wood fibers pressed into planks, panels and trim. It does not burn or rot and holds paint well.
Where it matters on a siding job
Cutting it makes silica dust, so plan for dust control and the right saw. It is heavier and slower to hang than vinyl, which shows up in labor. Follow the maker's clearances to roofs and grade, or the warranty goes.
What the model code says
- The code defines fiber cement products as thin composites of hydraulic cement and nonasbestos fibers. (IRC 2021, Chapter 2)
