What gable roof means
A gable roof has two slopes meeting at a ridge, with a triangle of wall, the gable, at each end.
Where it matters on a roofing job
It is the simplest roof to measure and shingle, which is why it is the baseline most roofers price from. The gable ends are where wind lifts the rake edge, so the starter and fastening at the rake matter more here than on a hip roof.
