What sewage ejector pump means
A sewage ejector pump lifts waste from fixtures below the sewer line, such as a basement bathroom, up to the gravity drain.
Also called ejector pump.
Where it matters on a plumbing job
Ejector basins need a sealed lid, a vent and a check valve, and a failure means sewage in the basement. An alarm and a service plan are easy to justify on these.
What the model code says
- Pump or ejector discharge piping needs a check valve and a full open valve on its discharge side, with access to both. (IRC 2021, Chapter 30)
