What stain-blocking primer means
Stain-blocking primer seals water stains, smoke, tannin bleed and marker so they do not come through the finish paint.
Also called shellac primer, oil primer.
Where it matters on a painting job
Water stains on ceilings will bleed through latex paint every time. Spot prime with a stain blocker, and make sure the leak is fixed before you paint.
