What subcooling means
Subcooling is how many degrees the liquid refrigerant leaving the condenser is below its condensing temperature at that pressure.
Where it matters on a HVAC job
On systems with a TXV, techs charge by subcooling. A system that is low on charge usually shows low subcooling. A leak search and repair is a separate line from adding refrigerant, and customers should see both.
What it costs
Jobs that involve subcooling are priced in the aC repair cost guide: about $400 typical, usually $210 to $640. The guide shows its sources and what moves the price. The refrigeration btu calculator prices a job line by line.
