What gutter hanger means
A gutter hanger is the bracket that holds a gutter to the fascia. Hidden hangers screw through the front lip into the fascia; brackets support the gutter from below.

Where it matters on a gutter job
Sagging gutters usually mean hangers spaced too far apart or screwed into rotten fascia. On a repair, re-hang with screws into solid wood. In snow country, tighter spacing is worth the few extra dollars.
