What safety glazing means
Safety glazing is tempered, laminated or other approved glass required in hazardous locations, such as doors, tub and shower enclosures, and glass near walking surfaces.
Where it matters on a glass job
Replacing a pane in a hazardous location with plain glass is a liability. Know the locations, and quote safety glass where the rule applies even if the old pane was not.
What the model code says
- The code lists specific hazardous locations for glazing, including glazing in doors and glazing adjacent to doors. (IRC 2021, Chapter 3)
Check which code edition your building department enforces for safety glazing before you quote.
